What is The CGA?
The Chocolate Girl Academy is an enrichment program and our purpose is to help young chocolate girls build self, and all the things that follow that hyphen from confidence to awareness to love to worth to image and everything in between, through education. Education that is specifically and carefully curated to build a sustainable foundation so they do not have to unlearn as much as we have. So they do not have to internalize and feel the effects of the stereotypes as we have. It is a mentorship program that is rooted in the African proverb, Each One, Teach One. It builds on the groundwork laid by our predecessors, by our ancestors. Which is why each program is named after trailblazing, change-making Chocolate Girls that have revolutionized generations. To show these beautiful young black girls what is possible. To show them that they are beautiful simply because they exist and that existing is enough. That they are enough. And it all starts with us.
Services
What do we offer?
An academy for girls ages 10-17 that meets bi-weekly that hosts a series of programs focusing on empowerment, enlightenment, and enrichment. We offer opportunities for our mentees to get involved and make an impact in their community. We also provide resources with the intention to help dispel the stereotype that your potential is limited or defined by where you come from. Most importantly, we offer a home and help our mentees find one within themselves.
What sets us apart?
It starts with us. It is our very understanding of and commitment to watering the seeds those that came before us planted that sets us apart. Because we know the power of building together and truly believe in the importance of it. And we recognize the irrefutable work put in and progress made by our elders and by our ancestors. Our goal is to of course, teach our mentees how to build their own, but our most prominent goal is helping them see that they do not have to do it on their own.
